It was on the way back from getting coffee today that I began to realize the full benefit of living up here in Seattle – ♥seeing Morgan every day♥.  This week he has been working downtown, so we have enjoyed our little lunch times, coffee rendevous’, and occasionally, a shared bus ride home (when he’s not working too late).

I would say life has been treating us pretty well (except my house isn’t sold yet and still the yard must be maintained).  We keep each other motivated to work out (me at my TurboJam, him training for the upcoming marathon’s), then we make dinner together, and last, we save money because we also make our lunches every day.  I’ve never been so on top of it in my life (that’s what she said).  We’re enjoying, and appreciating the hospitality of the Fowler’s, and come this weekend Morgan will be living in his own space at his friend Brandon’s house.  My plans to move out are solely based on the Portland Real Estate market.

Outside of playing Guitar Hero, watching Entourage and various netflix movies at night, work seems to be going fine (for me that is).  I get in around 8, leave at 5 and have a lunch break (note the blog at noon).  On the way to work, I’ve enjoyed picking up the habit of something new – reading.  :) I figure since I’ve passed my CPA (oh yeah, I PASSED MY CPA!!!!), I have earned the right to read again and am thoroughly enjoying the 20min bus ride.   At work, it’s been slow to pick up, but I’m starting to get work passed over, nothing too complicated.  The team is nice, and they are lively, so I fit in just fine.

All-in-all, life is pretty good.  I get to talk to Hillary every day and have been able to see people when I’ve visited (though I can ALWAYS get some more of that! :) ).  I still get the benefits of Deloitte w/o the side effects – baseball games, alcohol, hearing about the computer issues and yet not having any of them :) .  I miss you all and always enjoy any contact!  I’ve figured out the messenging system and you can find me distracting myself from work at google talk.  Wish us luck, as this weekend the parents all get to meet each other over a little Father’s Day brunch! :)

Accessorize!

I recently decided that it was time to purchase a “grown-up” purse that was bigger than a mini wallet :) .  This realization hit home with my bus rides to and from work and the horrid green purse I have that looks more like it belongs at an outdoor concert and wouldn’t hold a book, lunch or change of shoes.  Plus, noticing that every woman carried a purse that looked much more presentable, and work appropriate.  So my search began.

One would think, with all the millions of options for purses out there that I would easily be able to find one I liked.  Never being one for big purses (they somehow always make me think of my mom’s old purses from the 80s), this might prove difficult.  Since work has been considerably slow for me, I began my search online.  So many websites to peruse, so much time wasted, and so little accomplished.

I began to discover that (a) every purse I really liked was >$500, (b) this was not a task to be accomplished online and (c) I am extremely picky when it comes to purses!  I almost considered asking my cousin Karissa for one of her old purses as she has great taste in bags; but withheld and my search continued.  Along the way, I picked up 2 pairs of earrings and a much needed brown belt, but alas no purse.  Oh and in the midst of the bus traversing, I decided that wearing heels on the Seattle hills wasn’t going to do and I needed to get – gasp – a pair flats.  These were shoes I had avoided due to the fact that, no offense intended, they tend to look sloppy and make feet appear wider due to the lack of arch support.

So there I sat at my computer, looking for purses and shoes, feeling guilty, but needing a break from reading the proxy statement and the controls narratives.  I looked to Coach, Target, Overstock, bluefly and even wandered my way over to Neiman Marcus through a side track route of Badgley Mischka (bad idea).  This wasn’t working out, and I was getting nowhere.  And learning, that really, I would need a purse and a tote, because, well, unless I was willing to buy a suitcase sized bag, no purse would hold both shoes and a lunch, because well you’re typical purse wasn’t meant to hold everything (though some sure tried, but going from my Coach clutch to a bag a child could fit in wasn’t going to happen this time).

Finally, last night I ventured to the local mall, I was bound to find what I was looking for in there.  I quickly found a pair of flats I liked (love that DSW). At only $30, and with arch support, I figured they would do.  A side track into Nordstrom and I managed to escape without purchasing a pair of shoes that I couldn’t afford. Phew, that was a close one.  Maybe I’d have better luck across the way.

Macy’s proved to have a wide variety of purses – thank goodness for the picky-purse-person in me.  I looked past the large “G” of the Guess and the crazy colors of the Fossil and finally landed to decide between two bags; one black leather, the other black and white canvasish.  As I assessed the pros/cons between them: style, how quickly they would get dirty, how much they would hold, etc.  My decision finally landed on the leather one, as the white wouldn’t fare so well with me.

At last, feeling more mature having a purse that was worthy of my new job, I went home.  My job was complete… well at least until I begin to search for that tote I want ;) .
